Committee
and Captains reach consensus on the outcome of Anguilla Day
Boat Race
June 02, 2007: DJ Ritchie, the public relations
officer for the Anguilla Boat Race committee appeared on HBR
radio on June 1st to announce a "consensus'
solution to the outcome of the race held one day earlier.
According to his comments:
Boats who abandoned the race before it was officially called
off will be awarded the participatory prizes, as their
decision was fully understandable given the unfavourable
sailing conditions. Our unofficial list
includes Miss Anguilla, Stinger, Eagle, Blue Bird and UFO.
Boats who abandoned the race after the decision was
made will share an undisclosed but satisfactory prize.
Our unofficial list includes, The Satellite, De Chan,
NWO, Real Deal and Sonic. The Lady Maude was also
included in this group despite finishing the race primarily
because of its trailing position overall at the point the
race was abandoned.
Boats who completed the race will be awarded the positions
in the following order based on their leads and positions
irrespective of the decision made to bring the race to a
premature end.
The decision was apparently made by the committee in
agreement with boat captains in a heated but respectful
meeting.
