Sir
Allen Stanford received an exquisite sculpture of the
Stanford 20/20 logo just prior to the Guyana versus Bermuda
match on Sunday February 10. The sculpture, accessorized
with gold and diamonds was designed and commissioned by
Bobby Hussain of Guyana and was presented to Sir Allen by
Sarah Lynch, Mr. Hussain's daughter and Otis Anderson, a
friend.
The sculpture was done from a single block of mahogany and
mounted on a base made of greenheart, purpleheart and the
rare and expensive bullet wood, all from Guyana. The gold
which form the grill of the helmet, the Stanford emblem,
wording and a bracelet on the batsman's hand is from Guyana.
The three diamonds which stud the bracelet are also from the
mineral rich Guyana.
Sir
Allen commented that the sculpture was extremely beautiful
and that he was most thankful for the stunning gift.
Immediately after receiving it Sir Allen personally took the
sculpture to his exclusive Bowler's Club at his boundary
side Sticky Wicket Restaurant where it will remain on
display. The Bowler's Club, which overlooks the Stanford
Cricket Ground is where Sir Allen hosts his specially
invited guests for Stanford 20/20 matches. He and the
legends of West Indies cricket can often be seen enjoying
the cricket action from the Bowler's Club balcony.
Mr. Hussain was so moved after the initial Stanford 20/20
Tournament in 2006 that he commissioned the sculpture and
gifted it to Sir Allen as a token of his appreciation for
his efforts at revitalizing West Indies cricket. |
