February 9, 2008: A post-mortem has revealed that
Antigua's late Agriculture Minister, Charlesworth Theophilus
Samuel, died as a result of drowning.
Samuel was found dead last Thursday on a beach in the St.
Johns area after being missing for 36 hours. His
disappearance had shocked the nation and sparked a nation
wide frantic search by police, parliamentary colleagues and
many other members of the public.The 69-year-old
statesman was found by a five-member search team face down
in the water fully clothed in a blue shirt and a pair of
khaki shorts with his slippers further up the beach, some
distance from the body.
He will be accorded a state funeral, which is slated for 19
Feb., at the Antigua Recreation Grounds. |
