Bahamians
apprehended in US for human trafficking
February 6, 2008: According to a release from the
Royal Bahamas Defence Force, early Monday morning, the USCG
Cutter Knight Island together with a Defence Force sea-rider
on board apprehended a go-fast vessel 12 and a half miles
off Jupiter, Florida Keys. On board the vessel were
reportedly 21 illegal migrants including 17 Haitians, three
Jamaicans and one Chinese.
The three Bahamians on the boat were taken into custody on
suspicion of human smuggling. The men were being held
yesterday at the Customs and Border Patrol facility in South
Florida for further questioning.
