On Thursday 7th February, representatives from consuming
and producing states in the OECS are expected to discuss and
negotiate arrangements for the pricing and supply of flour
in light of escalating prices of that commodity.
The one day meeting which is being convened by the OECS
Secretariat will provide an opportunity for involved parties
to discuss the bases for and the levels of the price of
flour in the OECS as a result of price increases in wheat,
fuel and transportation, the main items which impact on the
cost of production of flour.
At the end of the meeting Trade and Private Sector Officials
expect to agree on a plan of action that addresses the
concerns of consumers whilst ensuring that the flour
producers can continue to operate within the protective
framework of Article 164 of the Revised Treaty of
Chaguaramas.
